A long slender, medium hot chilli pepper with a tart flavour which is used to make some of the worlds most famous hot table sauces such as Franks Red hot sauce.
This pepper was named after the Cayenne River in South America. Today, what most people refer to as "cayenne powder" may or may not be made from cayenne peppers.
This versatile pepper can be thrown whole into a stew where it will impart heat and flavour or is great crushed and used as a condiment.
