For the sixteenth year, I have made this limited edition sauce that is quadruple the heat of Insanity Sauce. This year's is our hottest ever and each bottle is hand signed and numbered.

This really is as rare as hens teeth. We are very proud to have managed to get our hands on this little beauty - Dave's limited run of private reserve sauces are always something special and this 2009 Jolokia 'Ghost' Edition is no exception. We only have limited quanties of this very special bottle so grab it while you can.

i love this sauce - it does taste very bitter at first, but the more you have, the more you get used to it. getting used to the heat on the other hand, is something completely different. this is one hot sauce! i normally use mad dog 357 and this is even hotter that mad dog. i added a little bit to my curry and it brought tears to my eyes, and literally took my breath away! but i love it, and it now goes on everything, from baked potatoes to soups and stews to curries, i couldnt be without this sauce now, between this and mad dog, i have all the chilli sauce i will ever need.

Ok, so I'm pretty used to Daves Gourmet insanity sauce now. I tend to slap it on pretty thick with a spam sandwich, as its doesn't pose me much of a threat even in quantity now. When I heard the review about this being 4 x hotter than insanity sauce, I was expecting the same flavour, but 4 x hotter, as I really like the flavour of insanity sauce. On my first try I must say I was very disappointed in the sauce. It tasted very sour and unnatural, and the 4 x hotter heat just wasn't there. HOWEVER, on my second try, I made sure I got a decent mixture of the two colours from the bottle. One is a insanity sauce orangey red, the other is a mysterious dark matter liquid that looks like something from a sci-fi move, pretty much the black oil from the x-files. These liquids stay separate in the bottle no matter how hard you dare shake, so mix it properly in a bowl. The kick that this things throws out then, when mixed properly is pretty damn ferocious. Between 3 of us, who have all tried insanity sauce agreed that this sauce is only just x 2 hotter sadly, and definitely not the x4 hotter Dave claims. The after burn is probably even shorter than Insanity sauce. The flavour though when mixed properly is much more prominent and richer than insanity sauce. It has a slightly smoky flavour that is very subtle and only really evident in a few seconds before the after burn. It has a sweet and sour mix that leans on the tomato sweet which is actually habanero and garlic coming through which makes for a real classic base to mix with other chilli sauce. There's a good old tang of sour in there too that waves in just after the sweet hits your taste buds that bring in the fire. It's fantastic chilli sauce with a really great flavour. The box and presentation of the bottle does give it an edge of class for the collector however, so if you need 1 of Dave's sauces in your collection, I'd be buying this.
